Sugar Land will host its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 30, at Sugar Land Memorial Park, 15300 University Blvd., to commemorate those who died in active military service. Admission is free and open to the public.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. The Sixth Cavalry Historical Association will host a vehicle exhibition, and other vendor booths will include military donation stations, flower booths, etc. A formal tribute with words of remembrance by local dignitaries will follow at 11 a.m. The ceremony presenter and emcee will be retired Brig. The program will continue the community tradition of acknowledging the names of veterans engraved inside the walls of the park’s iconic Remembrance Tower, and a patriotic music tribute will be performed. The Houston Commemorative Air Force will conduct a military flyover, and there will be a 21-gun salute. The ceremony will close with a traditional flag observance led by a local Boy Scout troop at noon.
There will also be a creative station for children’s patriotic crafts, and food trucks will be onsite with items available for purchase. Limited handicap and public parking will be available onsite. Attendees are strongly encouraged to use parking and shuttle services available at University of Houston-Sugar Land, 14004 University Blvd. Complimentary shuttle services will run continuously from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
