Welcome to the first installment of our "Five O'Clock Somewhere" series where we explore the Houston area's best happy hour hotspots.Since the Galleria area is literally and geographically the "center of it all" when it comes to the Houston area, as well as one of the most trafficked destinations for happy hour hipsters and late afternoon lounge lizards, we'll start there.

Happy Hour Hotspots in the Galleria Area

Bosscat Kitchen and Libations - As personal fans of "the brown water", we have a deep appreciation for a spot that takes their whiskey serious, and Bosscat does just that. With a robust compendium of whiskeys spanning a variety of flavor profiles, distillery techniques and regions from around the world, Bosscat is my kind of Houston haunt. I should mention they are also recent winners of both Americas Best Bourbon Bar and the Top 100 brunch restaurants in America, so there's that.

A great place to mix it up and wind it down, Bosscat's hopping happy hour runs Monday through Friday from 3-6 pm featuring $5 wells, house wines and Texas crafts to sip and clink with your favorite workmates and afterwork companions. If you arrive on the hungry side, but not ready for a full meal, their Nashville hot chicken andamp; cheese dip, pulled pork hush puppies, pork belly poutine or cornbread madeleines will hit the spot. Bosscat is located at 4310 Westheimer Rd at Highland Village.

Nobu - Pop on over to this world famous, upscale Japanese joint's Galleria area location in Houston from 6-7 pm daily for a Black Manhattan (Old Overholt, Amaro Montenegro, Orange and Aromatic Bitters), Winter Spritz (Ketel One, Cucumber Mint, Cucumber Puree, Sudachi, Syltbar Prosecco) or Oaxacan Penicillin (Herredura Silver, Sombra Mezcal, Ginger Honey Syrup, Citrus) and snack on a wide variety of appetisers including Umami Sea Bass Tacos, Beef Kushiyaki, Yellowtail Tartare or some Sushi Maki. Nebu's Galleria area hotspot is located at 5115 Westheimer Rd andamp; free parking is available in the Brown and Yellow lots of the Galleria Mall.

La Table - Looking for something French inspired? Pop over to the newly re-opened La Table for a 5-7 happy hour daily or their popular "reverse happy hour" on Friday and Saturday from 8-11 pm. Teh relaxed atmostpher andamp; friendly services of the tres chic diining room and wrap-around bar, combined with teh french inspired menu, lush garden-like outdoor patio and high end ambiance make for the perfect after work wine down. La Table is located at 1800 Post Oak Blvd.

Cafe Mawal - If your tastes run a bit more mediterranean, Cafe Mawal, at 6006 Fairdale Ln. is a great little restaurant and hookah cafe with a happy hour that is truly next level. Their world-class chef's mastery of traditional spices and flavors makes each dish an opportunity to experience classics and delicacies in new and exciting ways. Every plate becomes a culinary journey from the Middle East to Houston, TX.  The flavor is kicked up a notch by their Drink Specialist blending the yummiest and most refreshing smoothies and cocktails!

If you find you just can't leave when happy hour wraps up, stick around for DJ Scoop, DJ Rami or DJ Majid, spinning international hits from Hollywood to Bollywood and everywhere in between.

Some other great Houston area happy hour haunts in the Galleria area include The Tasting Room Uptown Park where the Truffle Fries are to die for, Caracol for a taste of Coastal Mexico, The Stone Crab Lounge at Trulucks, Peli Peli and its South African Fresh seafood, wood-grilled meats, vibrant vegetables, rich curries and intoxicating desserts, 51fifteen Cuisine andamp; Cocktails, White Oak Kitchen andamp; Drinks, Dish Society with its farm to table specials, and more. Each has its own unique crowd, specials and flair and you're sure to find something to your liking and new friends for the making.
