Today, the Houston Texans, in partnership with the NFL/Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Grassroots Program, announced a $250,000 grant for Legacy The School of Sport Sciences. The grant was awarded through the National Football League Foundation Grassroots Program and will be used to install an artificial turf field at its campus in Spring, Texas.

"I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Houston Texans, LISC Houston and the NFL Grassroots decision board for making this turf grant opportunity possible," said Kerrie Patterson-Brown, Founder and CEO of Legacy The School of Sport Sciences. "We were thrilled to learn of our selection for this honor and we are deeply appreciative of our new partnership. Our student body, academic programming and the Legacy community will greatly benefit from this award. Thank you again for choosing Legacy the School of Sport Sciences as a NFL Foundation Grassroots Field Grant recipient."

The grant is part of $6 million in field refurbishment awards allocated this year and this marks the Texans' 13th field donation totaling more than $1.5 million invested through this program into the local community.

The NFL Foundation Grassroots Program – a partnership between the NFL Foundation and LISC, the nation's leading community development support organization – has supported the construction or renovation of 416 football fields nationwide since 1998. During that time, the NFL Foundation has granted nearly $58 million to revitalize playing fields in underserved neighborhoods. Fields are newly built or significantly renovated, with improvements such as irrigation systems, lights, bleachers, scoreboards, goal posts and turf. Grassroots grants are issued once established funding thresholds are reached for each project.
