Houston: we have a winner!
Think back… more than a year ago, Houston was the epicenter of the national celebration of the 50th anniversary of the lunar landing—July 2019 was “Space City Month.” Houston has always been pivotal in space exploration, including the historic manned mission to the moon, so it makes sense the city observe the momentous anniversary.
Houston First’s Marketing team led the community-wide campaign: “Space City: Moon Landing 50th Anniversary” together with Space Center Houston, NASA, United Airlines, the Houston Airport Systems, Turner PR and more than 60 hospitality partners. The cooperative celebration transformed and reinvigorated “Space City” as it showcased Houston’s innovative spirit.
PRSA is the nation’s largest professional organization serving the public relations community and Houston was selected best in class, after successfully competing against iconic brands like American Airlines, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Hilton, LinkedIn and UPS.
The 50th Anniversary celebration generated unprecedented excitement and teamwork, while inspiring participation from locals and visitors who traveled to Houston. With a collection of events, exhibits and activations across the city, the campaign was a powerful economic driver for hospitality, entertainment, travel and other businesses. As Michael Heckman, Houston First’s acting president and CEO says, it was “one of the most successful events in the city’s history.”
