The Houston Furniture Bank’s mission is to furnish hope by Making Empty Houses Homes. With the support of industry partners and the Houston community, The Houston Furniture Bank works with over 45 social service partner agencies to provide essential furniture to families in need.
According to Rachel Dawkins, M.D., with the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, "Studies have shown that kids who regularly get an adequate amount of sleep have improved attention, behavior, learning, memory, and overall mental and physical health. Not getting enough sleep can lead to high blood pressure, obesity and even depression."

For 26 years, Houston Furniture Bank has been serving families affected by poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, mental and physical health concerns, and disasters. They served over 2,000 families in 2019 alone. Following Hurricane Harvey, Houston Furniture Bank provided furniture assistance to over 3,500 families affected by the storm. Also in 2019, Houston Furniture Bank launched its “No Kids on the Floor” initiative, working to ensure that no child goes without the rest that is essential to growth and learning by providing bedding to children in need. Houston Furniture Bank is a second chance organization, providing meaningful and gainful employment to over 35 families.
You can support Houston Furniture Bank by donating your gently-used furniture, volunteering your time, dropping off your mattress to be recycled (they recycled 20,000 mattresses in 2019!), shopping at the Furniture Outlet, or contributing to our No Kids On the Floor Campaign. One in every six Houstonians currently lives below the federal poverty threshold. Every night in our city, tens of thousands of children are sleeping on the floor. Houston Furniture Bank is working to meet the needs of those kids. Houston Furniture Bank is working with partner organizations and the community to create a healthy living environment where no child sleeps on the floor. Their goal is to raise funds to provide 100 twin mattress sets each month to the children of the families they serve.

Houston Furniture Bank has served over 50,000 children in 26 years. In 2018 alone, they served 1,348 children, with an average of 112 per month between their disaster relief and regular furniture distribution program.
