In 2004, Urban Harvest’s Saturday Farmers Market  started with just seven vendors, providing an outlet for community and backyard gardeners to sell fresh produce harvested directly from their own soils. Today, many of their original vendors – including Animal Farm, Atkinson Farms, and Pat Greer’s Kitchen – are part of one of Texas’ largest farmers markets, today supporting over 70 local Houston area farmers market vendors. Shop, eat, and hang out with friends, family, and local farmers and growers at the weekly farmers market! Open every Saturday from 8:00 am to noon, rain or shine.

All farmers and producers at the Saturday market come from within 180 miles of Houston, offering the freshest, local produce and meats available. The prepared and hot food vendors source 51% of their ingredients from local farms and growers, providing additional economic support to producers and building a more interconnected local food system.

Urban Harvest’s Houston Farmers Market Program continues to champion the vision that started it all: support fresh, real food – and those who grow and raise it.

Urban Harvest's Saturday Market is located at 2752 Buffalo Speedway, Houston TX 77027

Founded in 1994, Houston's Urban Harvest has continued to garner a well-deserved reputation as a leader in the local food movement. They’ve earned this role by adhering to clear and simple values and a focused mission.

Over 30 years ago, two activists from Houston's fourth ward, Deacon Malcolm McLemore and Deacon Jean Cameron, started a community garden in their neighborhood along with Dr. Bob Randall, one of the founders of Urban Harvest. Their garden grew and grew. The simple act of growing food brought neighbors together to share recipes and seeds, to solve problems about crime and blight, and to eat and celebrate together.

The seed that was planted by the success of this garden led to the creation of Urban Harvest seven years later. Since 1994, Urban Harvest has cultivated communities of gardeners, educators, farmers and neighbors to launch thriving gardens and farmers markets. Much more than simply a farmers market, Urban Harvest also hosts workshops throughout the week assisting local growers with valuable information and resources.

Under the direction of an all-volunteer board, Urban Harvest has grown from humble beginnings to employ a full-time staff and literally thousands of volunteers. Follow Urban Harvest on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for regular updates.
