Here at Houston Caller, one of our passions is supporting independent local businesses at every possible opportunity. When we heard about the popular wine bar and restaurant in the Upper Kirby area known as Relish Restaurant andamp; Bar and their new "Wine Merchant Program", we felt they were the perfect fit to launch our new daily "Support a Local Business" feature.
Relish Restaurant andamp; Bar has been open in the Upper Kirby area since 2016, having moved from River Oaks when they shuttered their former location known as Relish Fine Foods. Since that time, the Houston area has faced some serious challenges for independently owned businesses including Hurricane Harvey and now the Covid-19 pandemic. Through it all, Relish Restaurant and Bar has continued to thrive.

"We loved Relish Fine Foods, but were somewhat limited due to our lease - we saw a great opportunity in the space on Westheimer and jumped on it." says co-owner Addie Teague, "We have had our ups and downs with construction, Harvey, and of course now Covid but have persevered and continued to grow."
Addie and her husband, executive chef, Dustin Teague wanted to create a restaurant that was comforting and familiar - someplace that you would want to visit multiple times per week - whether it be date night, or a business meeting. They wanted to offer something for everyone, and thatand#39;s just what they have done. The food is classic American fare with their burger (available for lunch andamp; dinner) and fried chicken (available for dinner) being two of their most popular items. Both simple yet done really really well. They also have a stellar pastry department.
When asked about their new "Wine Merchant Program", Teague stated that "Once restaurants were allowed to sell alcohol to-go we saw this as a business idea - our guests really seemed to love being able to get wine and cocktails to go while picking up their favorite meal and also supporting their local restaurant. We know we can offer really competitive pricing along with the ease of pickup, curbside or delivery to areas within the beltway."
Maybe youand#39;re just a casual wine drinker like myself, and not a connoisseur, but youand#39;d like to order a selection for a party or for some friends and donand#39;t know where to start. Will Relish help to curate a selection for you?
"Yes, this is what is so fun about this project. We work directly with our bar manager and wine reps to find the best wines. We can either customize a case based on your taste or we can seek out specific wines that you might be looking for." says Teague. Best of all, they offer really competitive retail pricing, even price matching.
The Upper Kirby area of Houston is a highly competitive area with a wealth of choices for just about anything you could possibly need. Relish Restaurant and Bar, as a family owned local business facing the same pandemic-related restrictions as most restaurants in the Houston area, has grown every year thanks to some very strong roots in the area.
"We have great support from our community and guests and look forward to being here for a long time. We did close a couple times, when (Covid-19) cases were high, to keep our employees and guests safe - but we are currently open at limited capacity for dine in and to go." says Teague. "We are a family run business and truly love what we do - we love our employees like extended family and love the relationships we have built with our guests. We feel lucky to be doing what we are doing every day!"
Considering how the restaurant industry has been affected during the pandemic, Relish owners Addie and Dustin Teague seem to have found a great new way to stay connected to their neighbors and the Houston community while many people are staying at home. Through the Relish Wine Merchant Program, they are able to do just that, as well as continue to provide the personal attention the local, family-owned business is known for.
Be sure to check out The Relish Wine Merchant Program which offers a small and thoughtful wine list, with only the best wines - sure to satisfy any palette, easy online ordering, price matching and curated cases available on request. With Valentines Day just around the corner, now would be a great time to get your order in. Relish is located at 2810 Westheimer Rd. and can be reached by phone at (713) 599-1960.
