New Community Center To Open This Summer

This week, League City Parks and Recreation staff and nearly 50 children tested out the new League City Community Center as part of a trial run to prepare it for the City’s upcoming Camp by the Creek summer program. The facility—which Clear Creek ISD is leasing to League City for $1 a year— was formerly known as the League City School when it was built in 1938. Over the years, it has housed students from kindergarten to high school and was used as an alternative school. The building was scheduled for demolition last summer, until League City staff asked for council’s approval to lease the school and make some improvements and upgrades so it could be used as a community center to host city recreational programs, activities, camps, and civic club meetings.

Multiple City Departments, including Facilities, Public Works, IT, and Parks and Recreation, have spent the past few months preparing the building to host spring break camp this week so staff could determine what other improvements, repairs, or upgrades are needed before the building officially opens to the public in June.
