Mayor Sylvester Turner, Chevron Corporation, the Astros Golf Foundation, Greater Houston Police Activities League (GHPAL), and the Houston Parks and Recreation Department are set to host the first Youth Golf Clinic at the new Chevron Center for Education and Golf at Memorial Park.  The clinic will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 30th at the Chevron Center, 1001 East Memorial Drive.  A closing ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m.  The youth are from various Greater Houston Police Activities League program sites, and Houston Parks and Recreation Department Community Centers.  They will get introductory lessons on the game of golf from GHPAL officers and Parks Department golf pros.  In addition, the youngsters will be taught STEM (science, engineering, technology, andamp; math) activities relating to the game of golf, like aerodynamics, the geometry and physics associated with golf balls and golf clubs, and other interesting topics.

The golf clinic is free for the youth participants and plans are in the works to offer additional youth golf classes and STEM programs throughout the year.  The new Chevron Center was made possible by generous donations from the Astros Golf Foundation and Chevron Corporation.  It is part of the recent $34-million renovation of the Memorial Park Golf Course.
