City staff continues to monitor the potential for severe storms and flash flooding between Monday evening and early Tuesday. The National Weather Service says the risks for both severe storms and flash flooding have been expanded to an area that includes Sugar Land. According to NWS, a strong low pressure system will approach our area tomorrow, with the associated cold front passing through overnight and into the early hours of Tuesday. By tomorrow afternoon, the environment will become favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms. Storms may become strong to severe -- with large hail, tornadoes and damaging wind gusts all possible. Heavy rainfall leading to street flooding will be possible as the front moves through the area tomorrow night.
Make sure to secure loose items around homes, help us keep storm drains clear and avoid parking in the streets. Closely follow the National Weather Service -- the authoritative sources of weather.
