The Houston Rockets have partnered with Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH) on a unique cross-disciplinary collaboration to connect sports and arts audiences. In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the NBA, CAMH has commissioned 11 limited-edition posters for the corresponding Remix Night games on Thursdays and Fridays this season. For each game, a local artist is paired with a Rockets alumni being honored at the Remix Night game, and the artist creates a unique artwork inspired by the legendary player.

This initiative is part of CAMH’s strategy to embrace unexpected contexts and reach new audiences beyond the walls of the Museum. Phillip Pyle, II, CAMH’s Graphic Designer and Retail Manager, who spearheaded the project shares, “Basketball and contemporary art are neighbors that just need a reason to visit.” Pyle also created a poster as an artist for the series honoring Rudy Tomjanovich. Each of the 11 artists curated for the project has made basketball-related work in the past or is an avid fan of the NBA. “I love the Houston Rockets and I love art and it’s difficult separating the two in my opinion,” says Gregory Michael Carter who designed a poster commemorating Rockets legend Vernon Maxwell. The posters are made available at each game in limited editions of 75 each. The editions are also available for purchase at CAMH and online through CAMHSHOP. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Rockets Clutch City Foundation and CAMH’s exhibitions, programs, and free admission.
