In an effort to educate, inspire and encourage action towards the protection of the environment and focus on the need for conservation, Discovery Green Conservancy has announced that Earth Day, presented by Green Mountain Energy in partnership with Citizens Environmental Coalition, will be held April 18, 2021 from noon to 5 p.m. at the park.
A series of short films about Houston’s environment begins on the Anheuser-Busch stage from noon to 4 p.m. Participants are invited to view them throughout the afternoon. Urban Harvest and Churrascos food truck will be on-site serving healthy snacks and meals.
A panel discussion on The Nexus of Energy, Climate, and Equity in Houston will be held on the Anheuser-Busch stage from 4 to 5 p.m. The discussion will examine the freeze in February 2021 and how electricity production affects the environment and what can be done to protect vulnerable populations.
The event features live painting by Houston artists completing murals that celebrate the richness and diversity of our community, culture, and natural environment, The 13 artists were chosen from 111 applicants for their designs that envision the Houston we want to see and inspire us to create that shared future together. Their work will be on display at the park through October 2021.
The Houston artists participating in this work are: Melissa Aytenfisu, Betirri, Hannah Bull, DUAL, Empire, Max Guarnaccia, Kill Joy, Gelson D. Lemus (w3r3on3), Chelsea Mariah, Renee Martinez, Meenr, Amol Saraf and Usagi Wasabi
